More Than a Pair of Glasses: Why We Created Frame & Focus Optical

If you’ve ever walked into an optical store and felt like you were just being handed a prescription and pointed toward a wall of frames, we get it.

We think buying glasses should be a little different.

We wanted to create a place where we could talk about eyewear, vision, lenses, frames, and all the little things that go into making a great pair of glasses—but without making you feel like you’re reading a textbook.

Because after years in the optical industry, we’ve learned something pretty important:

Glasses are personal.

They sit on your face every single day. They affect how you see, how you feel, how comfortable you are, and, whether you realize it or not, how you present yourself to the world.

So why shouldn’t choosing them be a little more personal?

So, Why Frame & Focus?

Frame & Focus didn’t come from the idea that the world needed another place to buy glasses.

There are plenty of those.

It came from wanting to create the kind of optical experience that we believe is sometimes missing.

We’ve spent years working with eyewear and helping people find the right combination of frame, lens, fit, and style. We’ve seen what works, what doesn’t, and probably made just about every mistake you can make in optical along the way.

That experience has taught us that there’s a lot more to a great pair of glasses than simply putting a prescription into a frame.

The frame has to fit your face.

The lenses need to work for the way you actually use your eyes.

The measurements need to be right.

And, honestly, you should like the way you look wearing them.

That’s where the fun comes in.

We’re Big Believers in Independent Optical

One of the things we love about being an independent optical is that we aren’t trying to make everyone look the same.

We’re able to search for interesting designers, unique materials, different shapes, and frames that you might not see at every other optical store.

Sometimes you walk in knowing exactly what you want.

Sometimes you have absolutely no idea.

Both are fine.

Part of our job is figuring out what works for you—not just what’s currently popular.

And sometimes the frame you initially walk past ends up being the one you love.

That’s happened more times than we can count.

There’s a Lot More to Glasses Than Meets the Eye

This is probably where our inner optical nerd comes out.

There are so many things that affect how a pair of glasses performs that most people never have a reason to think about.

Why does one progressive lens feel completely different from another?

Why can two frames that look almost identical fit completely differently?

Why does a small adjustment sometimes make a huge difference?

Why do some people adapt to new lenses immediately while others need more time?

What do all those measurements your optician takes actually mean?

And why does your prescription alone not tell the whole story?

These are the kinds of things we want to talk about here.

We aren’t interested in throwing a bunch of complicated optical terminology at you just to sound smart.

We’d rather explain what it means and why it matters to you.

We’ll Talk About the Stuff We Can’t Fit Into a Social Media Post

We’ve had a lot of fun sharing quick tips and information on social media.

But there’s only so much you can explain in a 30-second video or an Instagram post.

This blog gives us a chance to go a little deeper.

We’ll talk about lenses, frame materials, progressive lenses, optical measurements, eye health, eyewear technology, frame design, fitting, and plenty of things you probably never knew about your glasses.

We’ll also talk about the eyewear industry itself and some of the interesting designers and products that we think deserve more attention.

And every once in a while, we’ll probably just talk about something we’re excited about.

Ultimately, It’s About You

At the end of the day, we’re not trying to make everyone an optical expert.

We just want you to understand what you’re buying and why it matters.

If you’re spending money on a pair of glasses that you’re going to wear every day, you deserve to know what you’re getting.

You deserve glasses that fit properly.

You deserve lenses that make sense for your prescription and your lifestyle.

And you deserve a frame that makes you look in the mirror and think, “Yep. Those are mine.”

That’s what we’re trying to build here at Frame & Focus.
